El grupo A de la Copa América 2024 vivió un tenso momento en el compromiso entre Canadá y Perú. En pleno desarrollo de los rivales de La Roja en el certamen, un juez se desmayó y cayó al suelo.
Así ocurrió en los minutos agregados del primer tiempo. Mientras el marcador aún se mantenía en cero, Humberto Panjoj se desplomó y fue rápidamente socorrido por los jugadores.
El primero en llegar en ayuda del árbitro asistente (de nacionalidad guatemalteca) fue el portero canadiense, Máxime Crépeau. Luego de algunos minutos de incertidumbre, el juez logró ponerse de pie.
Sin embargo, no logró estabilizarse al cien. Las imágenes, lamentablemente, exhibieron como nuevamente se desplomaba. Para su fortuna, en dicho momento ya estaba siendo acompañado por los médicos.
Fue retirado en camilla y la ambulancia esperaba para retirarlo del estadio. Ante la compleja situación, debió ser reemplazado por el quinto árbitro, el ecuatoriano Ricardo Baren.
